A Retirement Home
I know, you aren’t going to live long enough to need a retirement home. That is what we all thought when we were seventeen. But, trust me, we all leave life the same way we entered; dependent on others for our creature comforts.
If you live foolishly, that period is bound to be brief and probably painful, but for most, the last decade of our lives will be filled with medical challenges which degrade our independence.
When, not if, you finally require assisted living, rest assured, for Veterans who served honorably in the Armed Forces, a Veteran’s Retirement community is nearby filled with men and women who all share a common background.
Retirement in a Veteran’s home is means tested, but poor health is the great equalizer, I am afraid. Just know that the Armed Forces of the United States takes care of its own.
The day you enlist in the Army, whether your recruiter told you or not, you are joining the largest and most devoted family in the world.
I suppose we have to put a financial figure on that. As I write this, in 2023, the average cost of assisted living in the United States is $54,000.00 a year. Some states are lower, some are higher.
I know we are all living on a budget, and some of you out there may even have a cell in your spreadsheet dedicated to assisted living, but no one under the age of 50 likely does. And that is foolish because a decade in assisted living for one senior citizen will cost nearly half a million dollars.
If we are agreed on all of the above benefits, let’s ad up the tally, shall we?
